About Me
Hello, and welcome to Plumbing Info.org. My name is Steve. I am a 42 year old plumber out of San Jose, California. At least, I used to be a plumber until my work finally caught up to me and I was forced to retire due to multiple injuries. Service plumbing is hard work, and our bodies only hold out for so long. The good news is that now I have plenty of time to share everything that I have learned over the course of over 15 years in the trade.
I started plumbing fairly young. When I was a teen, I used to work for a friend that was a remodel contractor. I liked the plumbing part of it, so that’s what he let me do. I did that for a while, before moving on to do other things. I had a few jobs in the construction trade during those years that always put me near plumbing, until finally in 1995, I decided to become a service plumber full time.
I started at a company called “Drain Patrol” (they are called “I B Plumbing” now), where I took the plumbing knowledge that I had already gained and learned to apply it to service (it’s been said that service plumbing is like doing new construction plumbing with a blindfold). I worked there for two years and I learned fast.
I went to work for a small outfit for about a half a year after that, but left when I found out that someone that I worked with at Drain Patrol started his own company. I went to work for Allstar Plumbing on May 20, 1998, and worked for them until I had to face the realization that I could no longer do what I do. That was September 2009.
Why am I telling you all this? Simple: You are going to read a lot of what I am telling you on this website and wonder who I am to be telling you these things. If you are going to listen to me, you are going to have to know some things about me and my qualifications. You know about my history, but what about my knowledge?
I am the type of person who throws himself into everything he does with enthusiasm. If I cannot be the best, I don’t want to do it at all. I have studied plumbing code books, front to back, for years. When I was at drain patrol, I was the one that they sent on jobs that nobody else could figure out. When I went to work for Allstar, I learned even more. I soaked up every bit of information that I could about everything plumbing or service related. It finally got to the point where I was the ONLY person that could be trusted to take any job, no matter how bad someone else screwed it up, and turn it around.
I have seen the worst of the worst. A customer would call and say that they had 3 plumbers from 3 different companies and nobody could figure out what was going on. They would dispatch me, and I would solve it.
There is more to plumbing than just plumbing though. I am going to teach you some things here about the “service” aspect of plumbing that will shock you – little secrets that could save you thousands of dollars.
Why am I doing this? Read here and find out.
